Samsung will move the market launch of Galaxy Note 7. Faulty batteries ensure an unprecedented call-back action. Also customers in ...
Samsung had a big problem with the battery of the Galaxy Note 7. Now it becomes clear: The group can not solve the problem and takes the Galaxy Note 7 completely from the market. Update: A software update for European Note 7 reduces the maximum battery capacity to 30 percent.
Current status of Galaxy-Note-7-exchange
- Two - apparently manufacturing-induced - defects in the battery of the Galaxy Note 7 can lead to excessive heat and the Galaxy Note 7 can get on fire.
- Samsung can not solve these problems and therefore takes the Galaxy Note 7 off the market.
- Samsung warns against the use of a Galaxy Note 7 and asks customers to turn this off and return.
- With software updates, Samsung gradually reduces the maximum battery capacity of Note 7. This is to ensure security and should motivate users to submit the remaining 7 note.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Details about the return process
On the British side of the note 7 callback, it has been said since 09 December that a software update will further reduce the maximum capacity of the battery. As early as the end of October, it was said on the German callback side that the cargo "as an additional safety measure" would be limited to 60 percent. The update announced in the UK on 15 December will extend this limit to 30 percent. Whether that update also comes to German Note-7 customers, has not yet been officially confirmed. But we strongly assume that Samsung will also reduce the battery life of Note 7 here.Samsung has announced on a website how to take back the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung offers either the opportunity to get a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge instead of Note 7, whereby Samsung balances the price difference. Alternatively, customers can opt for a complete return and receive the purchase amount.
Buyers should contact directly the dealer or mobile phone provider, where they have purchased the Galaxy Note 7.
Curious but following: American authority obliged Samsung to second callback
On 11 October Samsung officially withdrew the Galaxy Note 7 from the market. Since 13th October, an official recall has been issued by the American Consumer Protection Commission (CPSC). What initially appears odd, has tangible consequences, because at the latest with this second recall the Galaxy Note 7 is officially defective: in the US, it is prohibited to sell products affected by an officially announced recall.
The tragedy of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Problems with the battery
Shortly after the international market launch, there were reports of individual Galaxy Note 7, their battery overheated and smoke development showed. After several cases Samsung stopped the further sales start and started a recall action, in order to exchange defective accumulators. Samsung could find the original cases in a wrongly dimensioned battery. This manufacturing error caused anode and cathode to touch inside the lithium-ion battery, resulting in hazardous heat and gas evolution.Despite the recall and replacement of the defective battery developed the Galaxy Note 7 for Samsung to a disaster. In the meantime, further reports of smoke development also emerged in the case of an exchanged Galaxy Note 7, which is supposed to be safe. Among other things, a note 7 has led to the evacuation of an aircraft.
In the US there were 96 cases before the first recall, at least 13 more cases with exchanged note 7. The cause of the second wave of smoke developments is not yet known.
