Camera problems, font sizes, gestures, Easter Egg and more: For the functions of the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL we have collected many
tips and tricks. We also offer general solutions if something is wrong with the pixel.
Improve readability, or see more content
It's a nougat feature, not a bit pixel-specific, but it's worth mentioning as a pixel tip: zooming in or out of fonts and displaying it according to your taste. Under Display you will find the settings for the font size and display size. Small values show more content per screen, large ones are more friendly for tired eyes.

| Makes everything a bit bigger or smaller. |
Activate the notification LED
As with the Nexus 6P, the notification light is not active by default at the pixel. Turn on the light by tapping the gear in Notifications under Notifications and activating notification light.
 |
| You must first activate the notification light. |
Display off, save battery
If you use the notification LED, you can disable the so-called inactivity display and the gestures to wake up the display. The inactivity display turns on your display at each notification and consumes power. It can be switched off in the settings under display.
 |
| The display of the pixel is constantly on. This can be avoided. |

software update. The German Google spokeswoman explained only in general:
The reports are known to the pixel team and it is currently working on a solution to this problem. We will let you know as soon as we have more information.

Screenshot with the pixel make
To make a screenshot with the Google Pixel (XL), hold down the power button and the lower half of the volume rocker at the same time. An animation confirms the recording of the screenshot. The screenshots can be found in the public directory Pictures / Screenshots.
Reset pixels
The Google Pixel (XL) can be reset in two ways. The one way leads you into the settings for the entry Save and Reset and there to Reset to factory state. There you will be prompted to confirm the code of your display lock again.
 |
| If nothing is left, you can delete everything. |
The alternative path is made through the Restore mode. You start it by starting the pixel (XL) and holding down the lower half of the volume rocker during the start process. In the Bootloader menu you start the recovery mode with the volume rocker and the power button.
 |
| The volume rocker is your cursor in recovery mode. |
The recovery menu itself is not displayed until you hold down the Power button and then press the top half of the volume rocker at the same time. One of the appearing entries is Wipe data / factory reset.
 |
| After the reset from the restoration mode, the reactivation lock (right) is activated. |
This process will quickly reset your pixel to factory defaults. The first time you start, you must specify the last Google account you used. This obstacle serves the theft protection. If you can not enter the Google account, the pixel is no longer usable.

Start pixels in safe mode
Like the old Nexus, you can simply restart the pixel (XL) in safe mode. What do you get? The mode helps in troubleshooting, if something is wrong with the pixel. In safe mode, you can only start the apps that were installed at the factory. The possibly faulty app, which you installed later, is not started. However, if the pixel is still causing problems, it is not on any of your apps.
