The product cycles for smartphones often follow a pattern: every twelve months, well-known models receive a refresher in terms of design, hardware and even features. Samsung's Galaxy A-series will soon be up for updates.

In January 2016 Samsung replaced the very successful Galaxy S5 mini by a double pack of Galaxy A3 (2016) and A5 (2016). The design of the mid-class smartphones suited the Galaxy S series. One could almost believe that with the A3 and the A5 from 2016 stripped down and shrunken Galaxy S6 held in the hand.

Why Samsung did this is obvious: The image of the top smartphone should also be used in the middle class, while at the same time the ever more demanding consumers should be satisfied. The same scheme will surely be applied to the Galaxy A-Series in the 2017 generation, but the design DNA of the Galaxy S7 is now being transferred to the new mid-class.
