Finally, there is good nougat news for the owners of a Nexus 6, because the update to Android 7.1.1 will be released in early January ...
At the beginning of December many Nexus devices received the update on Android nougat, only the Nexus 6 went empty. Now, however, it is apparent that the two-year-old Nexus 6 still receives the update on Android nougat.
It was a disappointment for the owners of a Nexus 6 when, at the beginning of December 2016 Android 7.1.1 was made available on various Nexus devices, but the Nexus 6 went empty. The reason for this was a "last minute bug" in the nougat update for the Nexus 6. Now the error is fixed and Android 7.1.1 for the Nexus 6 is prepared. At the beginning of January 2017 the update will be distributed including the latest security patch for the Nexus 6.
The update to Android 7.1.1 will bring some new features to the owners of a Nexus 6, including app shortcuts, night mode, GIF support on the Google keyboard, and certainly performance improvements. Features like the Pixel Launcher and Google Assistant do not get the Nexus 6 because they are exclusive pixel features.
The leap to Android nougat will probably be the last big update for the Nexus 6, because the Phablet is already two years old. But since Android 7 was finished in the late summer 2016 and the Nexus 6 was not yet full two years old, Google decided to supply the 6 inch smartphone yet with Android nougat. But Android 8 alias Android O will definitely no longer exist for the Nexus 6.
